President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday suggested that his administration does not wish to remain in power for a third term.
The president after meeting with the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu and other electoral commissioners at the State House in Abuja, assured that the 2023 general elections will hold despite security challenges facing the country.
After being briefed by Prof. Yakubu on the series of attacks on their facilities nationwide, the President warned that such was unacceptable.
Buhari assured INEC that his administration will do everything possible to ensure that the commission operates efficiently so that he will not be accused of trying to hang onto power.
His words, “I have assured INEC that we will make available to them everything they need to operate efficiently, so that no one will say we don’t want to go, or that we want a third term. There will be no excuse for failure. We will meet all of INEC’s demands.”
President Buhari further said the daily attacks on critical national infrastructure across the country was meant to ensure his administration fails but vowed that those bent on destroying the system will soon have the shock of their lives.
