It was gathered that the activist was shot on the right side of his hip by one of the gun-wielding security operatives drafted in as a backup to police officers already stationed at the Unity Fountain park in Abuja.
The officers were alleged to have opened fire at Sowore and other protesters who arrived the Unity Fountain park to stage a protest against the state of insecurity in Nigeria.
The activist took to his verified Twitter handle to share an image of the injury allegedly sustained from the shot fired at him by one of the operatives.
There was also a video recording uploaded on Sowore’s Facebook handle, showing the activist being shot at by a police officer, who arrived the scene as backup to security agents already stationed at the venue of the protest.
The video showed the activist and other protesters arriving the Unity Fountain but were locked out by officers at the venue.
Despite the heavy security presence, the video showed the protesters refusing to leave the place, insisting that the venue is a public space and citizens had every right to stage protests there.
Not long after the exchange of words, sirenes could be heard in the background, as it appeared more security operatives were arriving on the scene.
Sowore and the protesters stood their ground and appeared undaunted.
The video then shows a glimpse of a police officer taking aim and suddenly Sowore screams in pain, clutching his hip, which appeared to be enveloped in smoke.
The protesters are seen scattering in different directions, only to converge at a short distance from the scene of the shooting.
The video ends as the activist is being taken to the hospital.
This is not the first time the Sowore would be having a brush with security operatives, however.
Recall that he was arrested on the 31st of December, 2020, in Abuja, while staging a protest against bad governance in the country.
