Angry Worshippers Abandon Church Service As the Priest Rejected the Bottled water for Offertory

In Roman Catholic Churches all over the world, parishioners or worshippers who wish to thank God in a special way, either he or she is celebrating birthdays, anniversary, house warming, successful weddings, successful butial, successful graduation from University etc, is allowed to come to the altar of God for special prayers, and also he or she can come along with any gift which comes from his or her mind for the Thanksgiving mass.

Parishioners and worshipers of a Catholic Church which is located at Gboko local government area of Benue state, abandoned the holy mass when the Reverend father Celebrating the mass rejected the gifts which Parishioner brought for thanksgiving, it was reported that the priest in charge rejected the Thanksgiving packages of bottled water which a family willingly brought to the altar of God for thanksgiving.

According to the report, the family brought items to the altar which included tubers of yam, packages of bottled water and other items for their daughters birthday celebration and also for the memorial service for their late father. They were shocked when the Rev. Fr. In charge of the mass rejected the bottled water meant for Offertory, saying he was not at the Burial and doesn’t want the Bottled water, many were surprised at the Priest’s utterances as they Became angry.

In the words of the priest, he said; “Nobody should ever bring Bottled water before this altar as offertory for thanksgiving, I commend the man that brought a big goat for thanksgiving. let me warn you, nobody should ever bring Bottled water here for Thanksgiving, we were not at a burial ceremony please”.

According to The Nation, the worshipers of the church abandoned the church as the Priest’s action didn’t go down well with some parishioners, guests and family of those who came for thanksgiving as they all left the service. Am trying to figure out what exactly the priest meant, but to the best of my knowledge, a Catholic priest will not in a any way reject what was brought to the altar of God for thanksgiving, maybe there is misconception somewhere.
