Good news, as Delta State Government confirms the resumption date for tertiary resumption. Following an interview with journalists on Wednesday, the State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, has narrated that students will resume in phases in conformity with the new protocols in respect of the COVID-19 outbreak in Nigeria. According to him, academic activities for tertiary institutions across the state will return on October 2, 2020, following months of closure to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, the Commissioner make it clear that the official resumption date, does not apply to Federal tertiary institutions in the State, but only to all tertiary institutions under the Delta State Ministry of Higher Education. This is because Federal institutions are not included in the arrangement, as they are being controlled by the Federal Ministry of Education. However, he urged returning students to comply with COVID-19 protocols in line with the directives of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC). He further said that they have agreed to reopen the tertiary institution on October 2nd just immediately after the independence Day celebration. Although every
institution is to work out it’s own program in order to fall within the time duration and that is October 2nd.
In fact, when the lockdown started, students in the tertiary institutions were not all at the same level, as some were in their first semester while others were in the second semester. The state commissioner further narrated, that the school management knows what to do. Our appeal is that students should adhere and comply to the COVID-19 protocols.
