Our Investment Is At Stake”- RIMAN Laments, Advises FG Keeps the Borders Shut (See Details)

The Union of the stakeholders in the rice value chain has advise the federal government of Nigeria rethink on its decision to reopen land borders.

The Union added that if the borders are opened both food self-sufficiency in the country and their investments will be at stake.

This was revealed in a report from an exclusive chat Daily Trust News has with the National Chairman of the Rice Miller’s Association of Nigeria (RIMAN), Mr Peter Dana.

RIMAN’s Chairman explained further that if the borders are reopened and rice are allowed into the country, it will affect the economy negatively.

According to Mr Peter, he said the reopening of borders will affect what the country has achieved lately in ensuring that their is food-sufficiency, especially in rice sectors.

He continued revealing that the reopening will not only affect the rice sector but all other agricultural sectors.

Mr Peter also reminded the federal government of the common said slogan that the country should produce what it can eat.

He said allowing free access and passage to the border will not only affect their investments but will also be of health hazard on the citizens as well.

Also, things seem complicated as the National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS) wants the borders reopened.
