The removal of Honourable Emeka Ihedioha from office as the Executive Governor of Imo State is no doubt, one thing that many Imolites had wished that it did not happen. Since then, many have dreamed and hoped that a miracle could happen to bring him back as the Executive Governor of Imo State once again. However, this hope was dashed when the attempt to get the Supreme Court to review the judgement that sacked him failed. Since then, many Imolites have been missing the man who they believed was the Peoples choice in the March 2019 Governorship election in Imo State with the belief that the Governor they voted is gone for good. But a recent move by the candidate of the Reform and Advancement Party (RAP), Barrister Kingdom Okere, seeking for a judicial
interpretation of the supreme court judgement between Senator Hope Uzodinma and Uche Nwosu. This has rejuvenated the hope for Emeka Ihedioha’s return as the Executive Governor of Imo State once again.
With this development, it can be argued that there are only two things that can bring Emeka Ihedioha back to office as the Executive Governor of Imo State. These are:
1 If the prayer of Barrister Kingdom Okere is granted by the Court
It is no longer news that one of the prayers of Barrister Okere to the court is that the Court should mandate INEC to withdraw the certificate of return, issued to Senator Hope Uzodinma, and issue a new one to Emeka Ihedioha as the candidate with the highest valid votes in the election. According Barrister Okere, this is because of the supreme Court judgement which declared Uche Nwosu as the candidate of the APC for the election, which left Hope Uzodinma with no party, and his votes invalid. Although this has the potential to bring Emeka Ihedioha back as the Executive Governor of Imo State, but this can only be possible if the court established that the claims of Barrister Okere are true.
2 If it Is established that Senator Hope Uzodinma was not a candidate for the March 2019 Governorship election
It is no doubt that the suit filed by Barrister Okere which is seeking the removal of Senator Hope Uzodinma is predicated on the candidacy of the incumbent Governor in the election. Therefore, the bid to bring Emeka Ihedioha back as the Executive Governor of Imo State could also be possible if Barrister Kingdom Okere could prove beyond any reasonable doubt that the Governor lost his candidacy to Uche Nwosu following the Supreme Court’s Judgement in that regard. However, failure to do so could mean that the Governor will remain in office for at least, the next General election in the state.
While many are looking forward to September 29, 2020, a day that has been fixed by the Federal High Court, Abuja to hear the suit filed by Barrister Kingdom Okere, which is demanding for a legal interpretation of the supreme court judgement between Senator Hope Uzodinma and Uche Nwosu, in the anticipation of the possible return of Emeka Ihedioha as the Executive Governor of Imo State, there are some who do not see this as something possible. Therefore, we will have to wait to find out what the court will say about the case.
