We have chanced upon an astonishing online report alleging that the United States police killed about 1,098 people in 2019 alone with a quarter of them being black Americans.
This was revealed by a group identified as Mapping Police Violence.
In the report, it was revealed that one major factor that contributed to the number is the widespread possession of guns in the US as this greatly increases the danger faced by officers on the job.
It was also revealed that about 135 officers were killed in the line of duty and this was revealed by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
This comes after the death of a black American man, George Floyd who met his untimely death in the hands of a police officer.
He was handcuffed and pinned to the ground at the neck by a white Minneapolis police officer and this has called for widespread protests especially among blacks who are demanding for equal rights and justice.
