A report on the daily Nation, 20th September 2020 clearly indicates that CS Magoha has scheduled a meeting with the Education Committee to confirm the date of the re-opening school that has been proposed and now settled on Monday, October 19, 2020.
In the report, the committee further advises the Ministry of Education and CS Magoha to reconsider on the dates of sitting for the national examination and push them forward to later dates of April 2021.
The committee also recommends that the school calendar be altered due to the prevailing circumstances and unprecedented times. They propose that the calendar for a school year should start in June 2021 as opposed to the normal January that has been circulating in the media.
They argued that, the new calendar would enable the schools to run smoothly after 7 months shut down and no student should repeat classes as earlier touted. The second term according to the proposed calendar should commence on October and close at the end of November while the third term starts in January and end in March.
Sarah Ruto the chairperson of the education Committee who will tomorrow meet the CS of Education Prof. Magoha to finalize on the newly proposed school re-opening matters talked to the daily nation saying that in the proposal, only the final year students i.e form fours and class 8 students would be allowed in schools on October 19.
She said that the students will have an ample time to prepare for their examination that have already been schedule in April 2021, and adeptly ensure that they observe the Covid-19 measure stipulated by the ministry of health.
In another parallel proposal, the committee thinks it is right for all the students to resume school all at once on the 19th of October while strictly observing the Covid-19 rules. What are your thoughts in this? Should the schools re-open or wait till next year?
