Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has now sent a message to IPOB Members and other secessionistic groups in Rivers, stating that no amount of pressure or intimidation from secessionists would force the state to accept their agenda and ideas. This new statement from Wike is in reaction to recent reports that about seven policemen were killed by gunmen in an overnight attack launched at three different police units.

Wike made the statement while revealing the position of the State Government on the recent attack on police stations and checkpoints in Rivers State by unknown gunmen. The Governor had scheduled and presided over an emergency meeting of security stakeholders in the state on Saturday.
Kelvin Ebiri, Wike’s special assistant on media and publicity signed the statement in which the Governor condemned the activities of unknown gunmen in the state. Wike warned the hoodlums that their recent attacks and actions are capable of causing another round of unnecessary crises in the country.
To the families of the slain policemen and security operatives killed by the hoodlums, Wike expressed his condolences to them, reassuring them and the general citizens of the state that security agencies have been charged with providing measures to secure Rivers State.
Wike ended by reiterating that under his administration, Rivers State would not be coerced to accept the agenda of secessionists and agitators in the state.
The new statement from Wike comes on the back of an increase in coordinated attacks targeted at security posts and formations in the country. In the South-East, it is rare for a day to pass without news about one form of attack or the other on police posts and checkpoints. Rivers State is also a red zone for these attacks, as it shares a boundary with Abia State, from where it is believed that IPOB members infiltrate the state from the South-East to cause violence.
In barely two days, about seven policemen were slain by these gunmen in different police formations across two LGAs in the state. The Police Pro, Nnamdi Omoni revealed details of the attacks as follows;
The first attack according to the Police occurred in Obio /Akpor LGA of the state at around 8:30pm on Friday night. In this attack, the gunmen neutralized two policemen at a checkpoint, setting a private vehicle of one of the police officers on fire.
In a second attack that night, the hoodlums attacked a town in Emohua LGA of the state and neutralized a couple of policemen and proceeded to set their patrol vehicle on fire.
The third attack according to the police PRO was launched in Obio/Akpor LGA. Unlike the first attack in the same LGA, this one was launched at a police station. Three officials were neutralized by the gunmen, bringing the total number of casualties from the different attacks to seven.
The attacks launched by gunmen in Rivers State has reached an alarming level recently. In barely a month, about five officials of the Nigerian Military, three Customs officials, and many police officers have lost their lives in these attacks that span several local governments in the state.
These attacks forced Wike to now come out to declare that they would not be bullied by secessionists to accept their divisive agenda. Wike had also placed a dusk-till-dawn curfew on the State and its boundaries to curb the incessant attacks on security officials in the state.
