At the flag off of this year’s wet farming season, farmers made a fresh appeal to the federal government for more security presence around farming communities.
According to the statement issued by the secretary of Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, Taraba State chapter, Mr Ibrahim Babangida;
“The issue of insecurity has become a national phenomenon and it is affecting rice production as well but yet our farmers has taken it upon themselves. We are not satisfied with the measures put in place but we know that the government and security agents are doing their best.
He further stated that farming in the area is becoming quite expensive because they go to farms with security personnel due to fear of being harmed or killed by bandits.
