Over 150 APC Members Defect To PDP
More than 150 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kuje Area Council, FCT.
The defectors handed over their APC membership cards, brooms, and posters in replacement for the umbrella of the PDP.
Mr Godwin Poyi, leader of the defectors and former Kuje APC Chairman, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that they were dissatisfied by the approach of APC policies in their area.
“We decided to join the PDP to contribute to the development of Kuje Area Council and the country as a whole.
“Our stay in APC has not been encouraging. APC policies and approach have not encouraged democracy and governance in the area council,” he said.
President Buhari Speaks On Attahiru’s Death
President Muhammadu Buhari has said the death of Chief of Army Staff, Brig-Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 other military officers have affected the fight against insecurity in the country.
Naija News had reported that Attahiru and the military officers died on Friday in a Beechcraft 350 aircraft that crashed near the Kaduna international airport.
Meanwhile, the senior military officers have been buried at the national military cemetery in Abuja on Saturday.
Speaking on Monday when he received a delegation from the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) at the presidential villa, Buhari said he will continue to do his best to tackle the security challenges bedeviling the nation.
Military Arrests President Of Mali, Two Others
Malian military officers on Monday arrested President Bah Ndaw and two other members of the interim government in the landlocked West African nation.
Also arrested were the Prime Minister, Moctar Ouane, and Defence Minister Souleymane Doucoure.
Government sources told journalists the three men were taken to a military base outside Bamako, the country’s capital, hours after two members of the military lost their positions in a government reshuffle.
11 Injured In Bauchi Gas Explosion
Two people have been reportedly killed while about 11 others sustained varying degrees of injuries when a gas cylinder exploded inside a garage in Azare town, Katagum Local Government headquarters of Bauchi State, The PUNCH has learnt.
The accident was said to have occurred inside the garage located along Jama’are road Monday afternoon.
A source in Azare told our correspondent on the telephone that the driver of a trailer drove into the garage with the intention of carrying out some repairs in the workshop of a welder.
