Over 150 Bandits Invade Katsina Communities

Armed motorcycle riding bandits, numbering about a hundred and fifty, Thursday attacked Wurma and Yarbudu villages in Kurfi LGA.

The attack on Wurma village was successfully repelled by a team of Mobile Police personnel operating along the Wurma axis who engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun battle.

One of the bandits was neutralized and a motorcycle was recovered in the encounter while scores of them escaped with gunshots wounds.

Former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has warned against the ethnic profiling of Igbo people, insisting they “are not killers”.

Okorocha stated this on Thursday, during the centenary celebration in honour of the former Premier of Eastern Nigeria, the late Michael Okpara, in Abuja.

“I appeal to all Nigerians to stop the ethnic profiling of the Igbo. They are not murderers, otherwise they won’t be in Kano or Lagos doing business”, Okorocha said.

Soyinka Denies Supporting Agitation For Yoruba Nation

Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka has denied supporting the agitation for Yoruba state

He made this known in a statement on Thursday by his media aide, Abiola Owoaje, titled: “Circulation of misinformation associating Professor Wole Soyinka with the agitation for a Yoruba State”.

Soyinka also denounced a social media post attributed to him in which he showed support for the agitation of Oduduwa Republic.

PDP Demands Uzodinma’s Immediate Resignation

The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for Governor Hope Uzodinma’s immediate resignation over insecurity in the State.

Mr Charles Ugwuh, the State Chairman of the party, made the call at a news briefing in Owerri yesterday.

Ugwuh stated that PDP was alarmed over the worsening state of insecurity in Imo and the escalation of “militarisation of the state.”

According to him, the governor had demonstrated his inability to protect lives and property of Imo people.

Ohanaeze Reacts To Blockage Of Onions To South East

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has condemned the withdrawal of onion shipments to the South East until further notice.

“Naija News” reports that the Onion Dealers Association in Imo State, Halilu Muhammad, had said that the association had stopped the movement of onions to the South East until further notice.

Muhammad claimed that members of the association lost over N13 million to the recent seizure of onion trucks heading to the region.

Reacting, Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said the move is a conspiracy against the South East to destabilise the region.
