President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a secretary and four board members for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

This was confirmed in a statement on Monday by the Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, and Minister of Justice, Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu.

The President George Abang Ekpungu as the EFCC Secretary with Luqman Muhammad (South South), Anumba Adaeze (South East), Alhaji Kola Raheem Adesina (North Central), and Alhaji Yahya Muhammad (North East) as board members.

The names have been forwarded to the Senate for confirmation, Naija News reports.

Security Agents Must Go After Bandits -Aisha Yesufu.

Popular activist, Aisha Yesufu has said security agents have the mandate to go after bandits and kill them.

Yesufu, who took to her Twitter handle on Monday, said bandits have killed and inflicted terror on the land, hence the justification for their annihilation.

But, in a Twitter post, Yesufu explained that God had said transgressors, such as bandits, should be dealt with.

She stated this, countering the stance of a popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, who stated that killing bandits will only worsen the security situation in the country.

Gumi, in an interview with Punch, insisted that the government could not protect schools without first finding a means to end banditry in the country.

President Buhari Makes Another Fresh Approvement.

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of five new universities specialised in technology and health to close the huge gap in the doctor-patient ratio as well as in medical research and production of pharmaceutical products.

He also approved a take-off grant of N4 billion each for the Universities of Technology and N5 billion each for the Universities of Health Science from the funding resources of TETFund to ensure early take-off of the institutions.

The Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono who disclosed this today in Abuja said the President approved two additional University of Technology in Jigawa and Akwa Ibom states.

Also, the establishment of National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Abuja and two specialized universities in Health, Nutrition and Medical Sciences to be located at Azare, Bauchi State and Ila Orangun, Osun State.

Mr. Echono also disclosed that the President approved that four existing Universities of Technology located in Yola, Akure, Owerri and Minna be upgraded and equipped.

Osinbajo Charges Youths Over Social Media.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has charged youths in Nigeria to join politics.

Osinbajo made the call on Monday in Abuja at the maiden Progressive Youth Conference organized by the All Progressives Congress (APC) youth wing.

Recalling that he was in a number of groups, concerned with corruption, human rights and democracy, Osinbajo said it was only in 1999 when the Alliance for Democracy won elections in Lagos that he entered into government as Attorney General.

The Vice President added that it is crucial for young Nigerians already involved in politics to influence others to also participate.

The VP advised young citizens youths not to be discouraged from joining politics because of negative sentiments associated with politics in the country.

Obasanjo Sends Strong Message To African Leaders.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called on African leaders to begin to harness their local resources to solve the problems facing their respective countries.

He made the call on Monday during the launch of the Independent Task Team of the Coalition for Dialogue on Africa (CoDA) on equitable and universal access to vaccines and vaccination in Africa.

The event was held in Okada, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

Obasanjo who was represented by Prof. Abdoulaye Bathily, from Senegal, noted that Nigeria and Africa’s problem is not lack of funds or resources, but the inability to harness them.
