The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has suspended its planned June 12 nationwide protest.

NANS president, Sunday Asefon, disclosed this in a statement on Friday morning.

The statement added that the protest was suspended for the welfare of students, adding that it doesn’ want to put the life of any of the students at risk.

The Igbo Elders Council has added a new twist to the insecurity in the South East, with an allegation that than 5000 Igbo youths have been killed and over 10,000 others, thrown into detention camps in the ongoing special security operation in the region

The IEC which comprised eminent leaders from the South East region, raised the alarm in a communique issued after their marathon meeting in Abuja sent to “The Punch” on Thursday evening.

Police Warns Against Protest In Delta

The Delta State Police Command led by CP Ari Muhammad Ali has said it will not allow miscreants to disturb the peace of the state, warning residents against any planned protests in the State on June 12.

The police chief handed down the warning in a statement signed by the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe.

Ali noted that the protest is being staged by criminally minded individuals hiding under the guise of peaceful protest thereby causing in the State.

Kaduna Government Confirms Attack On Bamalli Polytechnic

The Kaduna State Government has confirmed that bandits killed one student, injured one, abducted about eight students and two lecturers of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria.

The state Commissioner, of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan in a statement on Friday explained that the state has been briefed by security agencies of the attack by bandits at the main campus of the polytechnic late on Thursday night.

Aruwan noted that the bandits invaded the staff quarters of the campus, shooting sporadically, stressing that in the process, two students were hit and sustained gunshot injuries.
