Mikel Obi has extended his contract at the English Championship side of Stoke City.
Stoke City announced the former Nigeria skipper will play at least another season with them following the expiration of his initial one-year deal.
Mikel, 34, made 39 appearances last season when he joined up as a free agent following the termination of his contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor at the start of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Stoke placed 14th in the 24-team championship with 60 points from 46 matches.
Barca complete Emerson signing
Barcelona have announced the signing of right-back Emerson Royal from Real Betis on a deal that runs until 2024.
The Brazilian had been co-owned by both Barca and Betis, with the pair having joined forces to bring the 22-year-old to La Liga in 2019.
Now, however, the Blaugrana have exercised their option to buy the player outright for €9 milion (£8m/$11m) and he will be part of the squad for the 2021-22 season.
Arsenal considering Lokonga swoop
Arsenal are considering a summer swoop for Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga – according to Nieuwsblad.
The Gunners are looking at the 21-year-old as an alternative to Brighton’s Yves Bissouma, who would cost them around £40 million ($57m)).
Lokonga could be available for as little as £13 million ($18m), with Anderlecht open to selling a prized asset before he becomes a free agent in 2022.
Madrid approached Mourinho before Ancelotti hire
Real Madrid approached Jose Mourinho before hiring Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager, reports The Telegraph.
Mourinho only just took over at Roma but Real approached their former manager twice to gauge his interest in the position.
Real would eventually turn their attention to another of their former managers, Ancelotti, naming the Italian their new boss on Tuesday.
FA give Lage all-clear to take over Wolves
The FA has cleared Bruno Lage to move to England and take over as Wolves manager, according to the BBC.
There were initial fears that Lage wouldn’t pass post-Brexit regulations but after a hearing, the former Benfica boss has been given the all-clear.
Lage has been identified as the top choice to succeed former boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
Sporting CP interested in Trincao move
Sporting CP are interested in a loan move for Barcelona attacker Francisco Trincao, according to Sport.
Barca still have a high opinion of the 21-year-old, but would be willing to sanction a loan due to his lack of minutes at Camp Nou last season.
Atletico interested in Getafe’s Cucurella
Getafe winger Marc Cucurella is the subject of interest from Atletico Madrid – according to Marca.
Diego Simeone thinks the 22-year-old could add a new dimension to his squad with his versatility, and he could be snapped up for a fee within the region of €15 million (£13m/$18m).
Cucurella, who still has three years remaining on his contract, scored three goals in 37 La Liga outings for Atletico last term.
