The United Kingdom Government has reacted to the indefinite suspension placed on twitter by the Nigerian federal government.
Recall that on Friday, the federal government announced the suspension of Twitter from operating in Nigeria.
The suspension was indefinite as the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed explained that Nigerians were using Twitter to perpetuate activities inimical to the corporate existence of Nigeria.
Reacting to this In a report published by Daily Post, the UK government kicked against the ban on Twitter, stating that Nigerians have the right to freedom of speech and this freedom shouldn’t be suppressed.
This was contained in a statement made by the United Kingdom High Commissioner in Nigeria, Gill Atkinson, who said Nigerians have right to freedom of speech and the government must not suppress it.
According to her, she said;
“All Nigerians have the right to freedom of speech and the responsibility not to misuse that right.
“Any action taken by Government must be measured, proportionate and not to suppress basic freedoms.”
