A US Based Nigerian Computer Scientist Dies a Week After Winning A $125 Million Contract

Sad news about one out of a thousand Nigerians in the diaspora who achieved remarkable in the world of technology and artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged. It is well known that many Nigerians in the diaspora have accomplished great achievements in different fields that are printed in the sand of time. In the world of AI and machine learning, David Gbodi, a 42-year-old US-based Nigerian made the proud by writing a code that won a $125 million government contract in the United States of America. The code written by the late David Gbodi was for automatically detecting threats at Airports. Sadly, David Gbodi died a week after the code was approved by the US government.

It is however sad that the late David Gbodi is not alive to celebrate this great accomplishment. According to reports from the deceased’s brother and the CEO of Retina-AI Health Incorporation, Mr. Stephen Odaibo, the late David Gbodi died in his sleep. As narrated by Mr. Stephen Odaibo, the deceased suffered from a cardiac arrhythmia/heart attack. Cardiac arrhythmia is an irregular heartbeat caused by malfunctioned control of electrical impulses in the heart. Until his death, late David Gbodi had a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering and was a Kaggle Grandmaster. May his soul rest in peace.
