Following the expiration of the seven days ultimatum granted to the Federal Government by Tompolo to do the bidding of the Oil-rich Niger Delta region, there is good news for Nigerians.
The High Chief Oweizide Ekpemupolo had earlier asked the Federal Government to constitute the substantive board for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
However, all seems well now as the seven days ultimatum has been withdrawn by Tompolo, the Niger Delta warlord.

Ordinarily, the failure of the Federal Government to constitute the substantive board for the NDDC as demanded by Tompolo would have resulted in massive destruction against the nation’ s oil installations in the creeks.
But the Federal Government was fast in saving the situation by sending the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio to mediate on the issue.
Chief Akpabio has jetted down to the Niger Delta region where he held meetings with leaders and groups of the region in the Gbaramatu Kingdom and to the creeks where he interacted with the Niger Delta warlord, Government Ekpemupolo also known as Tompolo.
The meeting seemed to have paid off as Tompolo has released a Press statement via which he stated that he has temporarily withdrawn the ultimatum.
The decision to shove aside the ultimatum was a result of the intervention of leaders of the Niger Delta.
On Saturday, the Press statement which was released to newsmen in Warri said that Nigeria was already weighed down by current challenges and due to the appeal by senator Akpabio, other leaders of the Niger Delta region, and Tompolo’ s love for the country, the ultimatum was suspended.
However, the Niger Delta warlord warned that Senator Godswill Akpabio should march his words with action by ensuring the Constitution of the substantive board for the NDDC before the end of this month.
He vowed that when he is set to act, he cannot be influenced by material things or wealth.
Part of the Press Release reads “I came into this matter because of love for the region and Nigeria. I make bold to say that I cannot be compromised by money and other material things. However, the onlything one can do for Nigeria in thesetrying times where all the Geopolitical zones are in turmoil is to pray to God for peace and tranquility, particularly for the economic hub of the country, The Niger Delta Region.
He thanked all those who intervened in the matter and urged the Federal Government to not default on its agreement.
The meaning of Tompolo’ s withdrawal of the ultimatum is that Nigeria can continue to benefit from the region’ s crude deposit without let or hindrance.
